Crispy Perilla Leaf Pancakes (Kkaennip Jeon)

Perilla leaves have a unique aroma and flavor that make them a favorite ingredient in Korean cooking. These simple Perilla Leaf Pancakes are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They make a delicious side dish and are easy to prepare with just a few ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 26 perilla leaves
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 cup Korean pancake mix
  • Cooking oil

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the Korean pancake mix and water.
  2. Stir well until the batter is smooth.
  3. Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a small amount of cooking oil.
  4. Coat each perilla leaf with batter. Place two coated leaves together to make one pancake.
  5. Arrange the pancakes in the pan and cook until golden brown.
  6. Flip and cook the other side until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve warm and enjoy! 😃

Servings

  • Makes about 13 perilla leaf pancakes.
  • Serves 1–2 people as a main dish or 3–4 people as a side dish.

My Tip

These pancakes are especially delicious when served with steamed rice and a simple soy sauce dipping sauce. They are best enjoyed fresh from the pan while still warm and crispy.
